Thing 23

WOW!!! I learned about so many new sites and new opportunities for information that I was unaware of. The composing of a blog turned out to be a lot of fun. I really liked reading about all of the possibilities that the Internet can provide beyond google!

Thing 22

I created an account on netlibrary just so I could explore the site fully. But I do not own a mp3 player and I doubt that netlibrary is something that I would personally use. I am glad that I did familiarize myself with the site so that I could pass the info from the site on to others.

Thing 21

I liked the podcast alley site. I am also very proud of my attemplet at a podcast. My husband was interviewed for a podcast last year by a publication about the Florida Strawberry Festival.
Here is the link http://www.countyfairgrounds.net/florida/florida.php?M1=11&D1=07&Y1=2009&M2=01&D2=07&Y2=2010&E=&C=&S=FL&S1=1&S2=&p=2

now that I have booked marked podcastalley as one of my favorite places, I will listen more often.

Thing 20

I absolutely LOVE youtube.com! I have a son who is a filmmaker and he has several of his mini-movies on the site. I also enjoy watching music videos. I will search for baton twirling ideas also on youtube. I like to pick up new ideas for twirling techniques to teach my corp of baton twirlers. I personally have never uploaded a video to youtube, but I would like to experiment in the future and maybe upload a video of my group: The Temple Terrace Twirlers for all of the world to see!

Thing 19

For this assignment of Web 2.0 Sites…I went to the social network of face book. My sons have their own accounts and I have recently opened my own account as well. I have to be honest and say that I just do not think that I as a big fan. I just don’t seem to have the time or the desire right now to connect with people from high school or beyond. Maybe once things slow down a little, this would be something that I would enjoy.

Thing 18

I thought that I was familiar with word processing, but my only exposure was with Microsoft word and MS works. I really like the variation of ZOHO writer. That will be fun to experiment with the different possibilities that that site offers. I like the fact that you could access your files easily and from anywhere. I would imagine that this is a must for business people that travel extensively.

Thing 17

I was a little confused with this next task. I signed up with Pbwiki. I already was registered because that was the same site that I worked on with the classmate that I mentioned in the previous post. However, when I went to favorite restaurants, I got restaurants lactated in Texas. I will try to figure out how toi find favorite Tampa places…..

Thing 16

I was exposed to a wiki last semester when I took a course at USF that required working with a partner. I was amazed at the fact that we could work together without ever physically meeting together. I remember watching an example of a wiki on you tube. I thought that the explanation was perfect! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-dnL00TdmLY

As for how libraries can use wiki’s…I like the fact the there can be a large amount of collaboration between librarians from all over. In Hillsborough County Schools we have a conference area, but not a wiki. I think that it would be a huge help and benefit in there was one.

Thing 15

I think that the future for libraries will be forever be hand and hand with technology. I have seen sales of electornic books go crazy this xmas season. I embrace the technology and I think that it will enable me to always be on my toes and forever be a lifelong learner.

Things 13 & 14

I went to the Del.icio.us site and watched the tutorial. I have to say that I really can't imagine myself creating and using an account. I just would not keep up with this type of thing. I have a facebook account and I never, ever use it. I am too busy with working and taking care of my family. I may use it in th efuture. I just don't know.
I can't believe that here are 51 million blogs. I know that it is a great way to connect to people, but it just blows me away that there are that many! I am kinda a news junkie so I investigated the CNN blog. Too much talk about Tiger Woods though and i moved on!

Thing 12

I had never heard of Rollyo. I decided to seach for baton twirling because I have been teaching baton twirling in the Tampa Bay area for 18 years. I found information that I was not aware of. It would be easy to get sidetracked and not stay on task because with every click of my mouse, I find something new. I will definitly revisit this site again.

Thing 11

I looked around at Librarything and cataloged 3 books. 'm not sure that I would use this that often. I am familiar with a similar site called: TeachingBooks.net I think that I would use teachingbooks more because most of the times I am looking for new and unique lessons.

Thing 10

I added a picture of my media center using a gadget that was in the settings section to customize the blog.
I went to http://www.letterjames.com/ and saw how I could create e-greeting cards. I am not sure that I am ready to do that yet., especally since I just purchased $5o worth of christmas cards and stamps! I do love this site: http://www.elfyourself.com/ It is alot of fun!

Thing 9

The “Unshelved” site is great! I like to print out the cartoons and put them in the teachers workroom located in the media center.
There is a blog on Unshelved that has archives going back as far as 2003. I had no idea that I was that far behind the times. I think that I only heard of a blog about 1-2 years ago.

Thing 8

I never heard of RSS feeds but watching the CNET explanation was very helpful. I guess that I am still a newbie when it comes to all the diverse technology that can be found on the internet. As for the bloglines, I could see haw people could get carried away following things that interest them. I think that I would like to find a literacy lesson plan site where teachers can share their ideas. One that I found was called inspirationlane.blogspot.com

Thing 7

This week I finally learned how to create my podcast. I was getting very frustrated with it! I had recorded my voice, then recorded the music, but it took me a few days to be able to figure out how to blend the two together. I have to admit though, it was really cool hearing my voice come from the computer after I was finally successful at the task of creating a podcast!

Things 5 & 6

I signed on to Flickr using my Yahoo account. That was rather easy. Then I downloaded the photo of my family at Key West

. That was easy too!

Thing 4

I beleive that by signing up to blog that I am now registered. I hope so!

Thing 3

OK...I created a blog, thanks to the guidance of our instructor, Diane Austin. I never would have created one on my own. I found out that my son who is also a student at USF also created a blog on blogspot as a requirement for a course he is taking. If I could change some ting in blogspot,I would like a blog that automatically does spellcheck.

Thing 2

Thing 2: I have learned to love the phrase “Lifelong Learners” I mention that phase to the kids in my school all the time. I have to admit that when I was younger and a student in college, I couldn’t wait to graduate and get on with my life. I never, ever imagined that I would have a desire to go back to school. But as they say, with age comes wisdom. I learn something new every day and I love it!!!

Thing 1

Thing 1: I read the information about blogging. I was familiar with the term, but did not have a blog of my own. I kept a diary as a child. I started a journal when my kids were younger, but disserted it as life got more and more complicated. Our “journal “became the calendar that we wrote down Dr. appointments and soccer/dance/baseball schedules on.
I especially liked the Bookhive site. I saved that to my favorites and I will use the site at school for lesson planning
I decided to explore the “23 things” as a culmination to the course that I am taking at USF called Preparing Instructional Technology.

Background Information

I am originally from Delaware, and came to Florida 30 years ago to attend college. I am a 1983 graduate of USF. I met my husband of 24 years in freshman year of college. We have 4 children. Our two oldest sons are current USF students. Our daughter attends Hillsborough Community College and our youngest son is in 6th grade. I was a stay at home mom for the past 22 years. I began substituting at my local elementary school. I loved it...and the faculty seemed to take a liking to me as well. Out of 180 school days, I subbed for 120 days! One day I was approached by the principal. She told me that she was impressed with the way I handled the students. She also told me that she thought that I would make a good Media Specialist. At the time there were 18 openings in the county for Media Specialist. I was lucky enough to obtain a position. I absolutely love my job! I am now only 2 classes away from obtaining my School Media Specialist Graduate Certificate that is required for the position. I haved gained so much valuable information from each class that I have taken.

After attending my class on Saturday, I have amuch better understanding of how the blogging thing is supposed to work. I think that it would be a great learning experince to attempt to tackle the "23 things".

Media Specialist ideas

I am looking for ideas to use in my elementary Media Center to promote the circulation of non-fiction books.
