I was exposed to a wiki last semester when I took a course at USF that required working with a partner. I was amazed at the fact that we could work together without ever physically meeting together. I remember watching an example of a wiki on you tube. I thought that the explanation was perfect! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-dnL00TdmLY

As for how libraries can use wiki’s…I like the fact the there can be a large amount of collaboration between librarians from all over. In Hillsborough County Schools we have a conference area, but not a wiki. I think that it would be a huge help and benefit in there was one.
